Summer 2022 Fashion Trends

Happy first day of summer! After a couple summers of Covid, this is the first year things are finally starting to feel back to normal and I am ready to get out of the house in some cute new clothes! After two years of not really having to follow trends (since there weren’t too many other than sweats and lounge sets) I wanted to see what we could expect heading into summer 2022.

I compiled a list of the top 7 trends I came across as well as shop-able looks for each one!

Color

Color has been making a comeback for a little while now and is getting stronger going into summer. Neutral pieces are still classic for a nice sleek look, but it is definitely easier to incorporate color! And according to InStyle, monochromatic outfits are a must. The top colors are lavender, yellow, sage, peach and neons of all shades: pink and green, yellow and orange!

Texture

Textures are a good way to enhance your look this summer. Whether you make an entire outfit out of it, or just add bits and pieces, it is certain to take your look to the next level. One texture trend I repeatedly came across is crochet. It is perfect for tanks, dresses, coverups and even some cute crochet swimsuits! Other top textures to be on the lookout for are fringe, ruffles, lace, eyelet detailing and feathers!

Breathable Fabrics

This is one category I have definitely joined in on. Living in Missouri, you never know what kind of weather you will get or how humid it will be so you have to plan for the worst and breathable fabric is a must, especially when it can be layered. I have been loving light-weight button ups, linen shorts and light cotton dresses. The button ups are so perfect for layering as well and doubling as swimsuit covers. I will definitely be adding more of these to my closet this year.

Cutouts

The cutout craze started hitting the course a few seasons ago so this isn’t exactly new, but it’s definitely continuing to grow. The cutouts seem to have started smaller and mostly as cutout backs but have evolved into sides, shoulders, mid section and even asymmetrical.

Matching Sets

I guess spending so much time in lounge sets over the past couple of years has really made them grow on people! Easy lounge sets are sticking around, but now matching sets are widening their use by coming around in dressier options that are good for pretty much any occasion. There are so many options whether you want pants, skirts or a good short set. It makes planning outfits so effortless.

Patterns

Bold patterns are in. Large and small floral prints, vivid brushstrokes, gingham, polka dots and stripes. Any type of pattern you can think of, you are sure to find it. Combine this with the bright colors and you are sure to stand out. It is something you can make a whole outfit out of, only add in a small amount or go as loud or muted as you want. I have always been a solids girl, but I am starting to love all the colors and patterns.

Y2K Fashion

I am not sure if I, or anyone else for that matter, am ready for this one yet, but here we are! This is a huge, somewhat broad category from anything to jeans, butterfly accessories, low rise pants, to mini skirts, pleats and platform shoes. There are definitely some parts I am excited about, but I could do without the low rise jeans again, that’s for sure.
